Understanding the use of advanced and dynamic dropdown lists using Data Validation techniques.
Prerequisites
A good to advanced working knowledge of Excel.
Ideally, previous attendance of “Introduction to Data Validation techniques” course or equivalent experience.
Course outline
- The pros and cons of a basic dropdown
- Creating a dynamic dropdown list
– Establishing an Excel Formatted table as a list
– Using the INDIRECT function
– The benefits of a dynamic list - Creating a conditional dropdown list
– Naming the tables to be used
– The benefits of a conditional dropdown list - Naming convention issues affecting conditional dropdowns
– What might present a problem?
– Using an XLOOKUP to remedy this issue
The session will take between 30-40 minutes to complete and is followed by a Q & A which is optional to attend.
