This programme will be held via Teams – the link is embedded in the calendar invite.

Aim

  • Supporting people to understand assertion, and its opposites and to develop insight into the situations that hinder their assertion behaviour
  • Giving practical models and techniques to develop assertiveness and improve interpersonal skills development, building confidence for enhanced assertion

Process

Participants will join two Teams meetings, and will work with the facilitator as a whole group, as well as in small group or paired discussion. Supporting materials will be available electronically.

Over two 2½ hour sessions we will look at:

  • Assertive behaviour and its value to our inter-personal effectiveness
  • Opposites of Assertion and the conditions that may trigger non-assertive responses from us
  • Understanding ‘Gentle’ and ‘Strong’ assertion and which is our most authentic way of being assertive
  • Techniques and practical ideas for managing our emotions, communicating better, and identifying goals for our behaviour

Training will be delivered by Sophia Martin; a leadership development facilitator and trainer with 30 years’ experience of supporting leaders and managers in developing their skills and effectiveness.  Sophia has worked for NECS since its foundation and has provided development and support for individuals in challenging times.  Sophia takes a positive and encouraging approach in facilitation with individuals and groups.
