Description

Understanding the use of advanced and dynamic dropdown lists using Data Validation techniques.

Prerequisites
A good to advanced working knowledge of Excel. Ideally, previous attendance of “Introduction to Data Validation techniques” course or equivalent experience.
PLEASE NOTE: This is the 13th course in a suggested series of the 14 Excel sessions available.

Course outline

  • The pros and cons of a basic dropdown
  • Creating a dynamic dropdown list
    • Establishing an Excel Formatted table as a list
    • Using the INDIRECT function
    • The benefits of a dynamic list
  • Creating a conditional dropdown list
    • Naming the tables to be used
    • The benefits of a conditional dropdown list
  • Naming convention issues affecting conditional dropdowns
    • What might present a problem?
    • Using an XLOOKUP to remedy this issue

The session will take between 30-40 minutes to complete and is followed by a Q & A which is optional to attend.
