Description

If you want to know how and where to find evidence, to use in commissioning decisions, evaluation projects or research, and to assess it’s quality, this is the session for you. We will explain how to develop a search strategy and know where to access research papers and other types of evidence. This session will have a practical element, with a hands on searching. The session will also give you the tools and techniques to enable critical appraisal of evidence.  It is equally aimed at staff needing to find and use evidence in their role, and those who are developing a research project. The sessions follows on from the introductory session, and those attending should be familiar with different research designs.

This session is also suitable for those developing a research idea, and want to carry out a literature review.

It will enable you to:

  • Understand the different websites to use and what evidence they hold
  • Learn techniques to effectively search for evidence
  • Get practical experience of developing a search strategy
  • Get practical experience of completing an evidence search, to include using The Knowledge and Library Hub
  • Systematically examine research evidence to assess its validity, results, and relevance before using it to inform a decision
  • Developing practical skills and tools to critical appraise quantitative research
  • Developing practical skills and tools to critical appraise qualitative research
