EMIS Web Introduction

Aim: To provide staff with a basic overview of EMIS Web and provide the skills required to use all of the communication tools within EMIS Web.

 

 

 

Objectives:

  • Log on and off EMIS Web
  • Lock EMIS Web to prevent use by another user
  • Have an understanding of the layout of the EMIS Web home screen
  • Use the EMIS Web Support Centre
  • Navigate around the different parts of the system
  • Retrieve and Clear patient records
  • Create and manage Patient Warnings
  • Use the panic button feature
  • Send, update and reply to Tasks
  • Send, reply, forward and delete Internal Emails
  • Send and receive Screen Messages
  • Practice application of the training by carrying out a consolidation exercise

Suitable for: Users with no experience of EMIS Web

Pre-requisites: No prior knowledge of EMIS Web needed

EMIS Web Consultation Skills

Aim: To provide staff with the necessary skills to record a patient/clinician contact and view data in a patient’s clinical record.

Objectives:

  • Start a consultation from a relevant place within EMIS Web.
  • Explore the way the system is designed to display patient information.
  • Enter a comprehensive consultation that represents a patient/clinician contact.
  • Use Data Entry Templates to enter data.
  • Amend a previously recorded entry.
  • Delete a consultation that has been entered in error.
  • Mark information in the clinical record as private.
  • Practice application of the training by carrying out a consolidation exercise

Suitable for: Clinical staff that require the skills to record patient/clinician contacts

Pre-requisites:

  • No previous knowledge of entering data necessary
  • An understanding of read codes desirable
  • Basic IT skills desirable
  • Access rights to add and view data onto the system essential
  • A basic understanding of system navigation essential

EMIS Web Clinical Prescribing

Aim: To provide clinical staff with the skills to prescribe and manage medication within the system.

Objectives:

  • View current and past medication in the patient record.
  • Add a new repeat medication to the record.
  • Record medications given elsewhere e.g. Hospital.
  • Issue and print a repeat or acute medication.
  • Reprint prescriptions.
  • Re-authorise / re-start / re-prescribe medication.
  • Edit, Cancel Issue and End Medications.
  • Change prescription types.
  • Complete medication reviews.
  • Link medications to a diagnosis.
  • Explore the way the system is designed to view details of medication.
  • Record allergies and sensitivities.
  • Practice application of the training by carrying out a consolidation exercise

Suitable for: Clinical or Admin staff who require the skills to prescribe and manage medication.

Pre-requisites:

  • Access rights to logon to EMIS Web essential.
  • Access rights to authorise prescriptions essential.
  • Basic understanding of prescribing practices.
  • EMIS Web navigation skills essential.

EMIS Web GP Registrar Training

This course is for Registrars who are new to EMIS Web or would like a refresher on the basic every day functionality. At the end of the day, you will be fully equipped to manage consultations and prescriptions and competently move around the patient record.

Objectives:

Suitable for: GP Registrars only

Pre-requisites:

Basic IT skills desirable

EMIS Web Patient Record - Viewing Data

Aim: To provide staff with the necessary skills to view and add data within a patient’s clinical record.

Objectives:

  • Find and view information within the patient record.
  • Search for specific data within a record.
  • Use the tabular and graphical tools to view numeric data.
  • Practice application of the training by carrying out a consolidation exercise

Suitable for: Admin staff who require the skills to view and add data to the patient record from hospital letters etc. Also suitable for staff who summarise patient records.

Pre-requisites:

  • Access rights to logon to EMIS Web essential.
  • No previous knowledge of viewing data necessary.
  • Basic understanding of read coding desirable

Aim: To provide staff with the skills to book and manage appointments.

Objectives:

  • Access the Appointment Book.
  • Set the User Options within Appointment Configuration.
  • Use and manage the Session Holder Filters.
  • Print appointment lists.
  • Book appointments.
  • Cancel, amend and delete appointments.
  • Print a patient visit summary.
  • Access the patient’s location via online mapping.
  • Practice application of the training by carrying out a consolidation exercise

Aim: To provide staff with the skills required to create and manage data entry templates and use them for data entry within a patient record.

  • Access and navigate the Template Manager Screen.
  • Create data entry templates.
  • Amend existing templates.
  • Copy and amend existing EMIS Library and GP Contract templates.
  • Make templates active and inactive.
  • Import and export templates.
  • Create and manage library items.
  • Access and use templates from a patient record.

EMIS Web Concepts & Protocols

Aim: To provide staff with the skills required to create concepts and protocols in EMIS Web to facilitate decision making and data entry in patient records.

Objectives:

  • Create and manage protocols.
  • Understand the difference between Decision and Action nodes and when they should be used.
  • Create and manage concepts.
  • Use concepts within a protocol.
  • Edit and delete protocols.
  • Edit and delete concepts.
  • Use triggers to launch protocols automatically.
  • Use triggers to limit the use of protocols to specific staff.
  • Use the F12 launcher.
  • Practice application of the training by carrying out a consolidation exercise

Suitable for: Staff who need to manage data entry and alerts at a practice level.

Pre-requisites:

  • An understanding of searches is essential.
  • An understanding of Read codes is essential.
  • No previous knowledge of concepts or protocols is needed.

EMIS Web Reporting Session 1

Aim: To provide staff with the skills needed to create, manage and run searches within EMIS Web.

Objectives:

  • Manage folders within the Population Reporting module.
  • Create and run searches.
  • Copy, edit and delete searches.
  • Understand the difference between features and rules.
  • Print search results.
  • Access the GP Contract searches and see achieved/missing patients.
  • Understand the use of the EMIS Library.
  • Include and exclude patients using rules and features.
  • Create a search with multiple rules.
  • Practice application of the training by carrying out a consolidation exercise.

Suitable for: Staff who need to produce patient statistics.

Pre-requisites: Basic knowledge of Read coding

EMIS Web Reporting Session 2

Aim: To provide staff with the skills to use the advanced features of EMIS Web Searches and to create reports to extract data from patient’s records.

Objectives:

  • Use the “Count” function to search on the amount of times something has occurred.
  • Use the “Order/restrict/check” function to sort or limit the data found.
  • Use the “Linked feature” function to search for data based on the date of another piece of data.
  • Use the “Is NOT” function to exclusively exclude data.
  • Schedule searches to run automatically.
  • Export the results of a search.
  • Create auto-generated reports to extract pre-defined data from patient’s records.
  • Create manual reports to extract data from patient’s records.
  • Export data from a report.
  • Practice application of the training by carrying out a consolidation exercise.

Suitable for: Staff who are required to produce more complex searches than those covered in Session 1. Also for staff who need to extract data from a defined list of patients.

Pre-requisites: Completion of Reporting Session 1.

EMIS Web Reporting Session 3

Aim: To give staff the skills to use the in-built data gathering features of EMIS Web and to add data in bulk to the results of a search or a manually generated list of patients.

Objectives:

  • Access, run and extract data from the in-built FP34D vaccination report.
  • Create custom appointment reports based on either sessions or slots.
  • Create custom lists of patients to base searches and reports on.
  • Add data in bulk to a list of patients generated from a search or a custom list.
  • Practice application of the training by carrying out a consolidation exercise.

Suitable for: Staff who need to produce appointment and vaccination statistics or manage data entry at a practice level.

Pre-requisites:

  • Basic read coding knowledge.
  • Familiarity of the way the appointment book is setup.
  • Completion of Reporting Session 1.

Module length: 2 hours
